INTRODUCTION | はじめに

In 1613, under the orders of Date Masamune, the Keichō Embassy led by Hasekura Tsunenaga set sail from Ishinomaki for Spain and Rome. During their arduous seven-year journey, the mission also made a brief stop in the New World (present-day Mexico and Cuba).

How did Hasekura Tsunenaga perceive the vibrant culture and open trade of the New World, which was then under Spanish rule? And imagining the thought of the lord, Date Masamune,who possessed a global perspective,fuels our boundless curiosity.

For those of us deeply involved in Latin music and culture, having lived in Mexico and Cuba, Hasekura’s footsteps as the first Japanese samurai to set foot on the other side of the globe over 400 years ago, is a figure we feel a special respect and affinity for.He is also

an important symbol for the Japanese immigrants in those regions, a proud “predecessor”.

In 2013, Latin singer Noriko Kishi conceived the song “HASEKURA ~400 Years of Dreams~” (composed by Ryuta Abiru, with Spanish lyrics by Shiro Seino), inspired by Hasekura’s story and character. Its suite performances in Tokyo in 2021 and 2022,

resonating strongly with many audience members who were unfamiliar with Hasekura’s story.

This success led to the establishment of the “Hasekura Tsunenaga Friendship Bond” Executive Committee (Tokyo Headquarters and Sendai Branch) in 2024, bringing together those connected to Latin music and culture who share empathy for the Keicho Embassy’s achievements.

One of our dreams is to share the song “HASEKURA ~Bonds Across the Sea and Time~” (current title) with many people and to co-create a cultural exchange concert featuring Latin music with the people of Sendai, culminating in performances there. And now, we are taking step s towards that dream.

In today’s uncertain world, we hope to share – especially with younger generations the spirit of Hasekura Tsunenaga who stood by his convictions and dreamed of a brighter future.

1613年、伊達政宗公の命を受け、スペイン、ローマを目指し石巻を出帆した支倉常長率いる慶長遣欧使節団。7年にわたる苦難の旅の途中、使節団は新大陸（現在のメキシコやキューバ）にも、短期間ながら立ち寄りました。

当時スペイン統治下にあった新大陸の活気ある文化と開かれた交易の営みを、支倉常長はどのように受け止めたのでしょうか。そしてグローバルな視点を持った主君伊達政宗の思惑はいかに・・・と、限りない好奇心を煽ります。

ラテン音楽・文化に長年携わり、メキシコやキューバで生活した経験を持つ私たちにとって、400年以上も前に地球の裏側に初めて足を踏み入れた日本の侍・支倉常長は、特別な尊敬と親しみを感じる存在です。また、現地の日本人移民の皆様にとっても、誇り高き「先達」として大切な象徴でもあります。

2013年、ラテン歌手・岸のりこの発案により、支倉常長の物語を題材にした楽曲「HASEKURA〜400年の夢〜」（あびる竜太作曲、清野史郎西語作詞）が生まれました。2021・22年には東京で組曲として上演し、支倉常長を初めて知る多くの観客から強い共感を得ることができました。

この上演をきっかけに、支倉常長と慶長遣欧使節団の偉業に共感するラテン音楽に携わる者たちが集い、2024年に「支倉常長友好の絆」実行委員会（東京本部・仙台支部）を設立しました。

私たちの夢の一つはこの楽曲「HASEKURA～海と時を超えた絆～」をより多くの人に届けるとともに、ラテン音楽を通じた文化交流コンサートを、仙台の皆様とともに創り上げ、現地で公演することです。そして今その夢に向かって歩を進めています。

混沌とした現代社会だからこそ、信義を貫き未来を夢見たであろう支倉常長の思いを、特に若い世代に伝えていきたいと願っています。

テーマソング「HASEKURA～海と時を超えた絆～」

12年ぶりの新録で贈る、壮大な歴史ロマンと情熱のラテン・ラブソング。 

侍・支倉常長に想いを馳せ、日本と支倉の訪問の地、世界を音楽でつなぐ渾身の一曲がここに誕生。 2020年に日本ジャズ大賞を受賞し、その実力と存在感で注目を集めたラテン歌手・岸のりこ。彼女が若き日にキューバの地で「この遠い国に最初に降り立った日本人は一体誰なのだろうか」と夜空を見上げてその人に想いを馳せました。それが仙台藩の武将、伊達政宗の命を受け、慶長遣欧使節団を率いた支倉常長だったのです。

メキシコ、キューバを経由し、スペイン、ローマへ通商交渉のため7年もの旅を続け、信義を貫いた支倉常長が帰国した時は、幕府は鎖国の道に向かっていました。そのために時代に翻弄されながら、その数々の偉業さえも世に讃えられる事がなかったのです。

2013年に「HASEKURA〜400年の夢〜」と題して初演の後、2021年・2022年には沈黙の侍、支倉常長の胸の内を想像して"未来への夢"をテーマに構成した「HASEKURA組曲」として東京にて上演。歴史とロマンを歌に込めて、支倉常長に捧げる恋歌――「HASEKURA～海と時を超えた絆～」がついに完成。作曲は、日本を代表するピアニスト・あびる竜太氏。作詞はキューバをはじめラテン諸国に精通するラテン音楽文化研究の第一人者、清野史郎氏が担当。演奏には、あびる竜太（pf）、澁谷和利（b）、伊波淑（perc）からなる実力派トリオ El Restoに加え、次世代ラテンシンガー・奈奈カンタリーナが参加。円熟味を増した岸の歌声と、息の合ったアンサンブルが織りなすサウンドは、まさに12年ぶりの新録にふさわしい完成度です。この新曲「HASEKURA～海と時を超えた絆～」は、日本をテーマとしたラテン音楽の新たな代表作として、これからも語り継がれていくことでしょう。
